With Moodle’s recent update to 3.5 and Totara’s fast approaching version update to its 12th edition, we at Moonami thought it only appropriate to chat a little bit about some tools that would be extremely useful to you in terms of beefing up your learning platforms.

flipgrid

Flip Grid

(Free)

Flip Grid allows students to engage in more of a community-like setting, bringing them closer together and instilling the desire to speak out; fostering a sense pride and confidence as well as group effort, engagement, discussion and collaboration. With this plugin, administrators are able to lock videos from view of the students and later unlock it, a cool tool explained later on in the video below. Other than the fact that this gives students an alternative way to complete assignments but, it allows for the class to reach beyond just the classroom itself.

But this plugin isn’t just for the students. It can be used as a way for communicating between teachers and even coworkers within an organization. This opens up opportunities for quicker presentations. But not only that, peers can also share best practices, advice, discuss events or even speak about their daily lives.

H5P

H5P

(Free)

H5P gives administrators and teachers the opportunity to create, store and share content for free. This can be helpful for both education and corporate platforms because it gives the administrators the ability to create whatever they desire instilling a collaboration initiative among peers.

hypothes.is

Hypothes.is

(Free)

In the modern age, it seems that everything we do is now almost completely done online, and that includes education. With that being said, annotating has always been a fundamental part of comprehensive learning, giving students the ability to dive into the deeper meaning of a text, or, what that text means to them. With Hypothes.is, teachers and students can annotate any sources found online and share such annotations with the rest of their peers.

Within corporate functions, this plugin also has the ability to make a difference. Now, coworkers can look at documents and make suggestions on editing, incorporating ideas, how to go about mentioning a particular topic or even pointing out missing information.

Insertlearning

Insertlearning

(Free/Paid Depending)

With Insertlearning, administrators and teachers are able to go to any article across the internet and make a lesson out of it by adding questions, annotations and discussions right onto the page. Students can then go in and read the article, read any annotations left by the teacher and answer any questions or discussions without even having to navigate back and forth between the article and an assignment sheet.

Joget

(Free)

You can design apps to be used by students or you can even use this app to teach students how to build apps. The plugin can also be utilized for building apps useful for CRM, HR, Healthcare. This plugin is completely open source and mobily apt. You can even download some ready-made apps that are already in the platform’s marketplace.

Sway

Sway

(Free with Microsoft Account)

With Sway, you can either use it as a community builder or, for example, in the classroom you can utilize it for school projects. Students can easily organize information along with photos into a beautiful display and then share in with their classmates either within the application itself, in a presentation, or even both.

For corporate usage, practically the same can be said. Employees can utilize it either for presentations, for team building exercises or even to keep each other updated on important things going on in their lives (vacations, weddings, children).

Autodraw

Autodraw

(Free)

With Autodraw, learners are able to draw with the plugins “autodraw” setting on which allows the tool to guess what they’re trying to draw. For the most part, this plugin would most likely be better utilized in K-12 Settings. This could be helpful for improving motor skills in younger children and even utilized as a more techy way of administering an art unit. Foreign Language Students can even use the app as a means of photo to word memory association meaning that they can use the photos they draw to connect with words they are trying to learn. Here’s a video to better explain this method of learning.
